The items that will and won’t be accepted in skips often varies between different skip providers, but as a general guide, the items that are not permitted in our skips include:

Plasterboard is another item that we do not allow in our skips with Mixed Waste. 

Plasterboard must be kept separate from other waste, either in its own skip, or in a plasterboard skip bag.

Skip hire tips

Do not try to hide prohibited items in the middle or bottom of the skip. Skips are emptied after collection at a licensed waste transfer station so that waste can be separated and recycled. Prohibited items will be found and you will be asked to pay an additional disposal fee, you could even be fined by the council if this is an illegally disposed of item.

You are responsible for all the waste inside your skip bin when it is collected, so be mindful of unwanted additions to your skip when placing an open skip in a publicly accessible area. This could be costly to you with additional charges and fees.

When the skip is full, simply call us notifying us of collection is all that is required. Removal can take a few days. If you require urgent removal, please conatct us and we will happily deal with your request the best way we can.

A variety of materials can be disposed of in one of our skips. From building and renovation waste to furniture and garden waste, we’ll be able to safely and responsibly dispose of it on your behalf. For more specific details about what can be put into a skip click here.

The skip must only be filled to a 'level load' and there should be nothing protruding above this line. Do not build up the sides to stack more waste, as this will likely incur a wasted journey charge upon collection until the excess waste is removed. The use of "greedy boards" (boards or similar used to increase the side height of the skip) are not permitted as part of our service.

You might think that we as a company are being awkward when our drivers refuse to take your skip because it is not filled to a 'level load' but this is not a policy that is enforced by us. It is covered under Transport Laws and is upheld by the DVSA. The Transport Law states that a skip must be level when it is transported and this means that it is not your skip hire company that will get in trouble but our driver.

Gone are the days of ‘’Cash Only’’ payments for Skip Hire Companies.

MC Environmental offer numerous ways to pay for your skip and we try to be as flexible as possible. The only stipulation that we have is that you must pay for your skip on delivery and not on collection unlike some companies.

This depends on the size and quantity of your waste. Skips are normally better suited to the removal of dense and heavy waste, but can of course be used for any legal waste items.

Before you place a skip on any public highway or road (including a pavement) you need to have a skip permit from the local council. Skip permits exist to control how many skips are placed on the road because they take up space and can impact parking and traffic flow. Not having a skip permit is unlawful, you can be liable to a fine, and the skip could be removed at any time. There is no requirement for a permit if you put a skip on private land, such as your driveway, field or private road.
